Permitted Use and Misuse
AImageLab-HPC is maintained by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and is intended for use by faculty, staff researchers, their students, and approved collaborators. All use of AImageLab-HPC resources is subject to the Regulations on University Network Services and to the policies described here. By logging in, you acknowledge and accept these policies.
Permitted Use
AImageLab-HPC resources may be used for research, teaching, and industrial activities that have been formally approved through the proposal process. Commercial use is permitted exclusively for projects of type BI (Large industrial research project).
Activities not covered by an approved project - regardless of their nature - are not permitted.
Account and Project Scope
Every user account and every project allocation has a defined scope, stated at the time of the request. Resources must be used exclusively for that stated purpose.
In practice:
- A thesis project account must be used only for the work described in the thesis proposal. It must not be used for other research activities, side projects, or work belonging to a different project.
- A research project account must not be used to support activities belonging to a different project, even if both projects share the same PI or team.
- A student account granted for a specific course must not be used beyond that course.
If your needs change or expand, request a new or updated allocation through the proposal process rather than repurposing an existing one.
Prohibited Activities
The following are explicitly prohibited on AImageLab-HPC:
- Using resources for any activity not covered by an approved project allocation.
- Cryptocurrency mining or any other workload unrelated to research or teaching.
- Attempting to access resources, data, or systems beyond what you have been granted.
- Circumventing the SLURM scheduler, manipulating job priorities, or exploiting the fairshare system to gain unfair advantage over other users.
- Storing or processing illegal content.
- Any activity that violates Italian or EU law or the University’s network regulations.
Account Sharing
Accounts are personal and non-transferable. Sharing your password, SSH keys, or any authentication credentials with another person is strictly prohibited, regardless of their affiliation or the reason. Violations will result in immediate account deactivation.
If you need to collaborate and share data, use the project’s shared /work/<project> directory. Do not share your personal account.
Enforcement
We reserve the right to suspend or disable any account, without prior notice, if it causes operational issues or violates these policies. Depending on the severity of the violation, cases may be referred to the University’s IT security office or relevant legal authorities.
If you are unsure whether a specific use is permitted, contact the HPC Helpdesk at aimagelab-srv-support@unimore.it before proceeding.
